College & University Presidents of National Stature?

<p>Besides Drew Faust at Harvard, possibly David Boren at Oklahoma, are there any current college or university presidents of national stature (known to a broad segment of the educated public) or influence (demonstrating leadership in higher education beyond their own institutions)?</p>

<p>In years past, it seems I used to hear much more about university presidents (Hesburgh, Silber, Gregorian, Giametti, and others) on the national scene.</p>

<p>Gordon Gee of Ohio State is a regional celebrity and a really cool dude. Don’t know about nationally.</p>

<p>How about Lawrence Summers, formerly of Harvard?</p>
