Ok, thanks. I know. I’m kind of OC when it comes to planning, and I guess I just made it my “rule” that colleges have to be in NY. But I know that’s ridiculous, so I’ll look at those schools, too.
Once you have test scores, get yourself a copy of the Fiske Guide to Colleges. My advice is to match your stats to schools on the Questbridge list and look at them especially carefully. The focus on NY is a perfect example of what may change for you in two years. Both of my kids kind of wanted to stay close to home when we started talking about schools, but by end of junior year they had matured more and were ready for more distance.
Sure. great advice
I actually looked at more of the Questbridge partner colleges and I found some that I find intriguing, like Brown, Northwestern, and Tufts, because of their BS/MD programs.
I actually found a bunch of schools partnered with QB that I think I would like.
You had great advice from intparent. Depending on where you live, a school in PA,NJ or MA might be closer to home than a school in NY.
Of course, first you must be chosen as finalist so this is premature…When you look at QB schools be sure to notice the lesser known ones with more favorable admissions rates and stats that match yours. Often students apply only to the well known, most prestigious schools but these may also be the hardest of the partners to get into.
New York does have the HEOP program, for low income resident, and apart from that, apparently the new Excelsior grant has a provision for private colleges. You can look up the lists of participating schools for both of these programs online.
Oops. I should have read the thread in its entirely (my bad). As a rising sophomore you have a couple years to go before Match. In winter- spring of junior year, you can apply for College Prep. In the meantime, as others have said, enjoy life – study hard – get some sleep and otherwise take care of yourself – follow your passions. Best of luck!
thanks @momcinco. Of course this is all rough planning. I’m not going for all of the most elite schools.
Can you tell me more about College Prep?
College Prep is a QB program for juniors. You apply in winter/early spring.

If accepted you may be invited to a conference (there are three, you attend the closest to your geographic location) which is an exhausting but incredibly informative primer on how to approach your college search. There are reps there from the college partners. Pafrents and students have separate sessions. You have sessions on how to write your essay, etc. Learning about financial stuff is very helpful (they explain a lot that you need to know). My kids liked being able to check in with the other students and compare notes about what they are planning and thinking.
Other beenfits besides the conference are ppssible mentoring by an older student; prizes including laptops for certain categories (see the website); and the chance to list on your apps, fly-in and otherwise, that you are a QB scholar.
Thanks. That was a very informative post. I think you explained it better than the website lol
