College Visits/Tours

Does visiting a college and taking a tour affect your admission? Will they see that you signed up to visit their college and will it show that you really want to attend their school?

any feedback?

depends on what school… some colleges do take note and some ask on their application if you have visited… it’s a good idea because it shows interest and it helps you to see what you like about whatever school, usually there’s a question like “Why is our school a good fit for you?”

What colleges are you looking at? Demonstrated interest in one way or another–whether that’s visiting, emailed your regional rep, or applying ED–is beneficial at smaller/less popular schools. Think LACs and the schools just below HYP, where yield is of the utmost importance.

Demonstrated interest including visiting helps at some (e.g., Emory and a number of small LAS) but for most colleges in upper ranks and essentially all public universities it means nothing. Consider the obvious: Does a school in the top 10 really need to be assured that applicants are interested in coming?

So it wouldn’t make a difference for schools such as Northwestern, U of Chicago, or U of Michigan?
