ive always wanted to go to USC, but that doesnt seem likely because i
already got rejected from SD and LA. Our financial situation rendered
me inapplicable for most financial aid systems before their due dates,
but recently my parents filed a huge lawsuit(multiple lawyers +
accountants) to the point where they have already sold their 2002
mercedes.

if i really dont get accepted, is it more logical if i just attended a
city/community college for 1.5 - 2 years, then transfer to USC or
higher (Stanford, most likely), instead of going to UCI or UCSB and
spending over 20k a year?

I heard God applied to Stanford as a transfer, and got waitlisted. grin I would never build a college plan that included "and then I'll transfer to Stanford.".

I'm beginning to think UC acceptances are pretty random. I got like a 2000 on the SAT, 640 2c, 700 Lit & U.S history...GPA like a 4.2...and I did minimal ECs...I got into USC, so don't give up hope yet...

You can win the lottery if you buy a ticket, too. It's just not very likely. I might play the lottery, but I wouldn't make real plans about my future based on the idea that I'll win the lottery.

It's more difficult to get into Stanford as a transfer than as an freshman admit. I think it's great to aim high, but I would create a realistic plan that doesn't start with the expectation that one will get admitted to Stanford as a transfer. I'm not saying not to dream. I'm saying what I tell my own children -- "Hope for the best, but plan for the worst."
