I know that you get a certain number of colleges that Collegeboard will send your SAT score to for free but could someone please explain how this works? So even if I have not yet applied to a college and Collegeboard sends the score to the college how will the college know who I am? I am an international student btw so apologies if this sounds like a stupid question aha
When you submit an application for an SAT test (or subject tests), you can designate in your test registration colleges to receive the scores at time of release and the first four of those are free sends. To get those free sends you must make that designation in your test application by no later than the second Monday after taking the test. If you fail to make that designation, you lose those free sends, but can send after the scores come out for a fee per college.
As to what colleges do, they set up an admissions file for you whenever they first receive anything that is supposed to be in that file. Thus, if test scores arrive first, they will be held and then matched with your application when it arrives. Of importance, to assure that occurs, make sure your identifying information used for the test application is the same as that used for your admission application, e.g., don’t change your name in between.
