@notrichenough We will be reviewing timing and content of the notification emails, but I do not have a timeline currently.
@T26E4 You should now be able to flag a post.
WIth this new format, I am suddenly receiving email notifications for one of my subscribed threads, which I never signed up for. When I go to preferences, it indicates that I should not be receiving email notifications. How do I turn it off?
Well, sort of. While I can prevent my posts from appearing on MY facebook, I cannot prevent them from appearing on another user’s facebook. How is this valuing my privacy?
I think I’ve discovered the Advanced Search by Author situation. The new forum design does not apparently work as well with older browsers, such as IE 8. The function worked fine with Chrome. Thanks.
I can’t seem to find any of the college forums that I was subscribed to. I had a few colleges that I have subscribed to that would notify me if there was a post in that specific college. I can’t find those anymore and it does not appear that I can re subscribe to them. Did I miss something or is that feature no longer available?
@GolfFather we discovered that browser “bug” on Advance Search > Authors as well, including on the mobile site. We have entered that issue to be fixed and our developers are currently working to resolve that. Thank you for that good eye!
@BobbyCT and @jgotteach we turned off the notifications for now because of the amount of emails it was generating for the members. It can be turned back on, however we are discussing alternative methods to control the amount of notifications a member receives. We want to find a perfect balance and offer the most flexibility possible. Thanks for your patience.
@LasMa the Facebook sharing functionality is no different than if a user copied and pasted the url to the thread on their Facebook wall. This is something that anyone can do, anytime, even with the old CC or any website for that matter. This feature provides a short-cut for a user to post a link to the thread on their Facebook wall. Nothing more than what any user can see by visiting the thread is displayed.
@doughill: Thanks for your response. I do miss having the opportunity to see the posts that were under the colleges I had subscribe to. I would receive an email notice if someone had posted the next day. I hope that can be resolved in the future. Thanks
doughill, sorry, but it IS different. Having a facebook link right there on the post is an invitation. I do not appreciate it.
BTW, one of the many frustrating things about this is the unavailability of moderators. Several of you seem to pop in and out of various threads for short periods – always during my work hours – and there doesn’t seem to be any systematic way to talk to you. I feel like my concerns are being completely ignored. For example, I haven’t seen anyone address one of the most frequent complaints, the tiny font size, or the lack of post numbers. If CC isn’t going to fix these, please say so, and then I can make a decision about leaving CC for good . But don’t just keep ignoring us.
@LasMa We are reading and considering the feedback from the community. We will be reviewing style feedback and making updates in the days, weeks, months ahead.
Our email admin@collegeconfidential.com is another way to provide feedback and get support.
Is it still possible to look at all of a member’s previous posts? I found that feature helpful.
@Twinnytoni To find previous posts:
Click on a users screenname
On the left hand navigation, click Replies
This will display the users previous posts.
I have a questions I can’t find the answer to anywhere on the site. On the homepage for each user there’s a category called “roles”. Mine, for example, says “registered user”. What is “Jug”?
The “Jug” category is forum speak for banned. Did you see this on your own? I viewed your profile and don’t see it there.
LasMa, I wasn’t able to get onto the site AT ALL until Tuesday afternoon. I got an error message when I tried to log in as ML, and when I tried to register as ML2, I never got a confirmation email. When I finally got on as ML2, a helpful tech guy, Rich, spent literally a couple of hours figuring out what was wrong. When I got on as ML at last, I was as confused as everyone else, trying to navigate the site. All of the moderators have spent a good bit of their time reporting problems to the admins. But as Lenitus pointed out, your best bet is to email CC directly. The tech guys have a LONG list of items they’re trying to get to
The moderators would also like to remind you that we are doing this on a volunteer basis. I’m an engineer/AutoCAD operator who has gotten very little sleep this week, because I have several project deadlines that all fall at the same time.
@Lenitus, no I saw it on the profile of a user who has been abusive in a forum but as not reappeared since the update. Thanks for explaining–feeling relieved.
@ML I had the same problem until I cleared all history including cache etc. It did mess up all of my other logins/remembered-stuff, on all of my computers (argh), but fixed the CC problem. If you are able to log in from a different browser than you’ve used before, this might be your issue as well.
I posted elsewhere but I don’t blame the mods in the least. The admins otoh…
