This is a little troubling as 2 colleges (BC is one) are asking where else a student is applying. My daughter was pondering what are the repercussions of not listing them all.

Anyone have any insight how to handle this question.

They’re trying to gage what kind of schools they are competing against. Are they the safety? Are they the reach? Are you applying to mostly small liberal arts schools and they are the one big one?

It shouldn’t really affect your application much, and in this case I would recommend being honest and telling all of the schools while still making it clear that they are your top choice (even if they’re not).

Some schools want to know so they can say that a lot of their applicants are applying to top schools. One public school I’m applying to keeps making a big point that many applicants are also applying to Hamilton, Cornell, Colgate, etc.

My issue is:

1) My concern is that if you apply to 10 schools then a BC would be less apt to accept you for yield reasons
