Looking at far away colleges, I see that many would require a flight plus a long ride from the airport. This makes getting home and back an all day odyssey. What are some schools that are easily accessible to a nearby airport? Let's say under 30 minutes with easy mass transit or shuttle to/from campus.

UC Irvine! It’s 10 mins from the airport, and on holidays/major breaks, they provide free shuttle services from campus. :)

^ I’m talking about commercial airports with major airlines.

Georgetown, George Washington, Catholic, UMD, and American are a metro ride from Reagan.

How do you feel about trains? Swarthmore has a station on campus and William & Mary as one within walking distance.

Where’s home? If you live in a hub city there’ll be lots of non-stop and 1-stop options. If you only want non-stops then any of the major hubs work. Besides, after a while you may find yourself wanting to stay at school more and go home less.

Loyola Marymount is near LAX in Los Angeles,

^ It’s a pretty good airport and flies to several parts of the country.
[John Wayne Airport (SNA) - Non-Stop Destinations](http://www.ocair.com/Airlines/Non-StopDestinations.aspx)

Depending on where you live, you may have to fly through SFO or another airport. -shrug-

I just have to fly to SMF, so it’s not that big of a deal for me

^ I was commenting about UC Davis, but that guy must have deleted his post. I know John Wayne is a major airport.

@Vinceh, I’m not looking at flight times. I’m talking about time to the school after the flight. FWIW, I’m in NY, where it’s easy to fly anywhere.

GA Tech, Emory, and GA State are all within 15 - 20 minutes from Hartsfield airport, one of the busiest airports in the country. You can hop on Marta from GA Tech or GA State and it would take you directly into the airport.

Good answers. Keep them coming.

Vanderbilt- Nashville

The Boston schools: Harvard, Tufts, MIT, BU, etc. etc.

By cab it takes like 15 minutes (no joke…though it varies with traffic) to get to the airport (Logan International Airport).

Those schools also provide shuttle services during traveling times. Or you can take the subways (or the busses in the city).

Lambert Int’l Airport to Wash U is direct (on at airport, off on campus) via MetroLink, and the school gives all the students free Metro passes, for both the St. Louis bus system and the MetroLink light rail. Ditto with UMSL (U Missouri - St. Louis) and SLU, though in the case of the latter you have to walk a few blocks or otherwise take the bus.

Trinity in San Antonio TX

Tulane in NOLA

Rice in Houston

Rhodes in Memphis

Pitt/Carnegie Mellon in PA

Just about all colleges in FL from NY

Claremont Colleges in CA near Ontario Airport

But, you need to take this a step further and look at the carriers for each airport. My son loves Colorado College in Colorado Springs. It is near an airport, but does not have many carriers that fly from our home airport into Colorado Springs. It could require a flight to Denver and a change of carriers. In my limited travel experience I have never had luck with changing carriers because the first leg always had delays.

I was surprised to find for us many of the southern states were easy flights on Southwest and Spirit. Charleston, Atlanta, Myrtle Beach - this includes College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina

Looks to me like Pitt and CMU are not close to the airport. This is true of many downtown colleges, since most airports are on the outskirts of the city. Is there some sort of transit that makes it quicker than it looks?

Rice seems reasonably close to Hobby. Is there easy transit?

This is what I’m looking for. Easy, quick access to a real airport.

No where in hell, Rice is anywhere close to an airport. Heck, even the University of Houston is much closer to Hobby than Rice is.

As for the question, I’m not sure, but I think GA Tech is pretty close to Hatsfield right?

Penn and Drexel are only about 20 minutes from the Philly airport. You can take the Septa train or a cab.

They are also in walking distance of the Amtrak station.

UW-Madison is about 15 minutes from the airport. Major caveat: there are only 12-14 gates and you usually have to go to Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit or someplace else first.
