Colleges for 32 ACT , 3.2 UW / 3.7 W, Geology major

We're seeing now that the unweighted GPA knocks him out of many scholarships, even with the ACT score. Our EFC is about $12,000 and we're in Texas. Looking for a mid-size public or private, with a total residual COA in the $20s.

DS wants a college town experience if possible; not crazy about small colleges under 4k or so. Loved University of Arkansas, but their geology program is not quite what he's looking for - wants more chemistry, hydrology, environmental and a whole lot less emphasis on physics. Also, not interested in petroleum etc.

University of Alabama is a real possibility with their weighted GPA policy, but DS wants more options to consider...

I would look at U Wyoming. Look at their Rocky mountain scholarships. Should get you in at less than $20,000. Place lots of people in the petro industry but also have programs in hydrology/water issues. We visited and were quite impressed with the uni.

Thanks, Haystack. Will do.
