Colleges for Film/Animation and Digital Arts

I’ve been searching for colleges for over a year now and still have not been able to come up with a compressed list of potential options. I’m very good at drawing, and my dad thinks that I should pursue storyboarding or something similar as a career so I’m very interested in majors involving digital art and film. I’m not particularly interested in going to an art institution but I am looking for a school to go with well-acclaimed programs in these fields. Also, I understand that California is a great place to go for these kinds of things but I am hesitant to move across the country (however I’m not totally unwilling). Ughguhg. Does anyone have any suggestions? I also can’t afford a 10000000000000 college so a place with good aid programs is preferable. Thanks for reading (:

What state do you live in now? Knowing that may allow me to suggest some good schools for this, which aren’t all the way in California.

Hi, thanks for responding. I live in Georgia. @RoaringMice

Have you looked at UT Dallas? https://catalog.utdallas.edu/2017/undergraduate/programs/atec/arts-and-technology-animation

Some good schools for film in your region of the US include Florida State U, UNC School of the Arts, Vanderbilt, U Texas Austin. If you don’t mind going further, you still don’t need to go to CA - you can go to NYU, SUNY Purchase, Syracuse, Ithaca, Columbia U, Emerson, BU, Wesleyan U (CT). Many of these schools are also quite good in digital and other fine arts. All are broad universities, not pure art schools.

If you don’t mind cold weather and like a big city, DePaul University in Chicago has very strong programs in their School of Computing and Digital Media (CDM). My son is studying graphic design there. Lots of cool film stuff goes on in Chicago too.

If 2 year colleges are an option, then Colorado Film School.
