My girlfriend wants to major in music education and go to a school in nyc. Her parents never went to college and are basically no help to her so I'm trying to help her out, the problem is I know nothing about the music education field. Also she didn't do very well in school she got mainly c's and d's and I'm wondering if it would be better for her to go a community college first then transfer later? I really don't know what is expected of someone trying to get into that field. Advice?

Google “Music Education+ NYC area”. If she doesn’t currently live in Manhattan, you should know that it’s a very, very expensive place to live and she might be better off looking at schools outside of the metropolitan area.
As a Music Ed applicant, she also has to audition on an instrument or on voice. Does she have that ability? C’s and Ds aren’t going to get her into an education program. If she is in HS, she needs to get those grades up now- applying to a community college would be a possibility, but make sure that it’s one that it’s one that offers transfer to a 4 year with full credit for courses taken.
While it’s nice that you want to help her, she really should be on here asking her own questions- it’s her life and if she wants to turn it around, she’ll get some great advice and help here on CC.
