Colleges for Musical Theater Major - Part 37

Dancersmom, my D used prints that we got from the photographer (though we, too, have permission from him to print our own once those are gone). She had ink problems only when she tried to print multiple copies instead of one at a time. Perhaps the type or quality of photo paper is different??

Another good way to attach the resume to the headshot is to use those little taperunners that are used with scrapbooking. They are quick and leave no mess. Then just trim the resume with scissors (or better yet, for straighter cuts, use a paper cutter).

I noticed that some of the pre-college programs are also asking for resumes. Although this may have been covered elsewhere (and I apologize if it has!), what do you generally include? Shows and training, I'm sure, but how specific? What else do you include? Do you include dates? How far back into the past do you go? Is there a model somewhere of a "standard" resume? Thanks so much!

On my CMU resume, I went pretty far back as I did not have alot of opportunities to do everything during grades 9 through 11. I included plays I had done and the dance experience I had during jr high.

Calif mom,

If you want to enable your email address in your settings, I'd be glad to send a version of my D's resume, which I put together using Susan's suggestions about 8 months ago....back when I was new at this.

Had my Ithaca audition today in the DC area. One down, five to go!

artsymom and dancersmom - What I did was use a laser printer at my school's office for the resume on the back of the photographer prints so there were no problems with smeared ink.

chrism - Thank you so much! I think I've enabled them now...and really appreciate your help.

Notarebel, good idea using the school's printer! I wonder if my D could get permission for that at her school...it's so big and bureaucratic. Fortunately, she's had no problem just using her home printer.

Resumes for Strawhat

One other thing about the resume for Strawhat auditions, they want the resume stapled to the headshot.

Actor465, were you there morning or afternoon? My D was in the 8:30am group (I wasn't there).

I still can't email you. Please send me an email and give me your email address, and I'll send the template.

Actor465 and artsymom, would you mind posting your own/your S or D's experience at the Ithaca auditions?

Artsymom and Notarebel,

Thanks for your advice. I'll ask my D to see what happens with her new printer. We haven't tried printing a resume on the back of a photo with hers. The next time she needs a headshot/resume I'll suggest to her that she give it a shot. If that doesn't work, I'll have her see if she can use one of the university's printers.

We may also try using a different brand of paper. We've been using Office Depot high gloss photo paper. The difference in quality from one brand to the next can be great. One brand of photo paper we tried a couple of years ago produced really awful looking pictures. Maybe the backside of the Office Depot paper we've been buying is just too slippery.

CalifMom - resume

I tried to send you a private e-mail and am not sure it worked. Please send me an e-mail so I'll have your address. I'll then send you a copy of my son's resume.

Ericsmom

Artsymom,

I was in the 12:30 group, so I didn't see your daughter (even though I wouldn't have known who she was).

Aspriringactress1,

The audition was very relaxed, probably because only 12 people auditioned in that time slot. We arrived about half an hour early, and I had to fill out some papers, you know, the usual. Then, one of the auditioners (there were only two) talked to the group for a little bit; he talked about the program as well as life in Ithaca. Then they asked everyone to wait in the hallway while they held the auditions. They were both very nice, and asked me a couple questions after I finished my monologues and songs, i.e. "What has been your favorite role and why?" Just stuff like that. And then they gave me a chance to ask any questions I had for them. Then I was gone!

It was very relaxed, and I'm glad that's what my first audition was like. However, I'm not sure if any of my others will be quite as relaxed.

Michigan auditioners:

Those of you who went to Michigan Friday for auditions, hope you made it safely with the weather. I, for one, am anxious to hear from you on how it went and what the kids were asked to do - especially including the dance and piano portions of the auditions. Thanks!

Me too, Ericsmom! I want to see if they had the optional tap audition. Anyone have any news?

This is Artsymom's D.

so the audition...it was very laid-back...not something to stress over...they were very nice... this was the only audition where i had to use a tape instead of an accompanist...that was probably the most frightening thing for me at least...um...what else...they asked me to rewind the tape to the first song and perform it as if i were "singing in [my own] room perhaps with the lights off." then at the end they asked some questions about goals and stuff...so overall it was pretty cool...nothing crazy weird like pop theory quizes or something...jesus...that would suck and i know sometimes they do that ::shudder::

No question that it was my D and not me writing that previous post, huh?!
