…And just as I am discussing Jewish life at TAMU my email has the latest hillel newsletter. Two links from it that may be of interest:

1)[The Hilda Specter Morgenstern Merit Scholarship](http://www.morgensternscholarship.org). The Hilda Specter Morgenstern Merit Scholarship is awarded once a year to an American woman who meets the following qualifications:
Will study in Israel during her undergraduate education
Identifies strongly as Jewish, but does not have to identify with any particular denomination
Has a 3.5 GPA or higher
Demonstrates strong interest in public advocacy, public policy or government affairs

And…those of you with kids who did birthright this winter break may have already seem photos like these. But for the rest of us these photos of snow in Jerusalem are great! [Israel - In Photos: Rare Snowstorm Paralyzes Jerusalem Area, Northern Israel – VosIzNeias.com](http://www.vosizneias.com/121356)

Ohmmom—Echoing Jozuko and spectrum2, your DD seems like a great kid and very qualified candidate. American, Tulane and Miami will surely offer her generous merit. I think, and others may correct me, that GW, WUSL, Emory will be less generous. But that may not be true of a student of your D’s caliber. So relax! You seem to have done your homework so far-your list is very good. Many of us have visited every school known to man, so if you have specific questions, let em rip!

Vitrac…I tried to PM you back, but you have too many stored messages! Apparently, you need to clear your storage box before you can receive any more. You are a very popular lady!!

One more school to add to Vitrac’s list of, may be less generous but still might offer your daughter scholarships types of schools would be Vanderbilt. Actually from what I read and heard it does seem that it is very likely that she would get a merit scholarship from GW.

Thank you to all the posters who helped me. I was just accepted to University of Oklahoma (not a surprise since all it requires is a 2.5 college GPA and passing hs grades), but still a nice feeling of relief.

Ohmmom, your daughter should apply to the Emory scholars program [Emory Scholars | Emory College of Arts and Sciences Admission](Admission | Emory University | Atlanta GA) . It has an earlier deadline date than the Emory application, and it’s very competitive, but your daughter stands a good chance of getting it. Of course Emory is absurdly expensive, so the scholarship may not be enough, but still, apply. If you have any questions about Emory’s Jewish life, feel free to PM me. I’m heavily involved in Oxford’s JSU, and our Jewish Student Union regularly goes to events on Emory’s Main campus, so I have quite a bit of familiarity with the subject. In fact, tonight, Emory’s president, James Wagner is hosting Shabbat, which I, along with at least 7 other members, plan on attending.

Also, just remember, your daughter WILL be fine. Her ACT score puts her in the top 2% of all students, and an UW 4.0 GPA with a full IB load is extremely impressive. Stats wise, your daughter is competitive for almost every school in the country, and most schools that give merit aid would probably giver her a fairly significant chunk of money, provided she shows a bit of interest.

Ohmmom- regarding jewish life at tulane, D1 is not observant, but an active Hillel and Chabad on campus is very welcoming, especially for freshmen looking for a friendly face. Or even just a nice place to bake challah. An added plus at Tulane-the president, Scott Cowen, invites the students (can’t remember if this is a freshman only event or not) to his house for…can’t remember if it’s for a particular Shabbat or Break the Fast or what…but just to see the inside of his house–one of those grand New Orleans mansions is worth it. As I reread this post, there seems to be an over abundance of “cant remembers!” And we are talking only 2-1/2 years ago! UGH!

CCC: We are absolutely DYING over on the Miami board! Latest rumor is 9 pm tonight. But I don’t believe any of it. Still at my computer working because I don’t want to step away for a minute. DS has been checking all day too. Fortunately, he has a friend coming over tonight so he will be home when I find out decisions are available. Then he can check…

Excuse me, but I have to go back to the Miami board and stress/obsess more…

Congratulations on the Goucher admit, great news.

On Miami, I wish colleges could just post a date and time for the release of admissions decisions on their website and be done with it. All of this drama and rumors serves no one, and makes a process that is already stressful that much more so.

Pkd how did you hear about Goucher? DD told me she got an email that due to the volume of applicants, letters weren’t going to be mailed until Monday.
