Colleges for the Jewish "B" student (Part 1)

Best wishes to our colleague

Hoping for a quick and easy recovery for our CC friend.

Prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery.

Thoughts and prayers for healing and health to our cc friend.

Keep us posted RVM on her progress. Send her our best wishes.

I will. I am a little hesitant to call her family at such a time, given that I am more of an acquaintance than close friend, but may try later this evening. If I reach anyone and get an update, I will post.

Sending warm wishes.

Thanks RVM- whatever is most comfortable for her is fine.

Registration for birthright opens up tomorrow for any students interested in attending.

I just found this posted on Philly.com

rvm: just catching up on the last week or so. School has started & with all the freshman & senior meetings I’m a little behind in my posts.
Please tell our colleague that my thoughts & prayers are with her/him.

halfempty - thanks for posting that update.

too tired - I certainly will.

Sadly, here is another incident:
<a href=“Jewish student told to 'burn in an oven' on UNC Charlotte campus”>Jewish student told to 'burn in an oven' on UNC Charlotte campus;

UNCC would be a good option for Jewish “B” students, if the Jewish student body grows and I think it will. Charlotte has a good sized Jewish population and the college is one of those that is rising in popularity and academic standing. It could also be an option for “A” students seeking merit aid as the Levine Foundation funds a competitive merit based scholarship for outstanding students.

I realize that this can happen anywhere- even at Temple U that has a large Jewish student body. Of note is that the school did respond to this.

our CC friend is in my prayers and thoughts too. An update on my son who started at Colorado College a few weeks ago, and " loves his F…ing life right now" Translated that means he’s really happy. It is most definitely the right school for him and he is thriving in every way possible. It’s a tiny school 2,000 kids and statistics say 100 Jewish kids, but oddly we met many at orientation alone and he has many Jewish friends and the majority of kids seem to be from the Northeast which did come as a surprise to me. Not sure if he just naturally gravitated towards the Jewish kids or there are greater numbers then accounted for. He has gone to Hillel on friday night’s “for the free Challah and wine” and told me it’s packed with about 200 plus kids every friday (you don’t have to be Jewish to go). I miss him like crazy, but he has been great about keeping up the communication via text mostly, and he’s so happy that I can’t be sad at all. Now on to son 2 who just started junior year and is a true B student (son 1 was more of an A- student with a 2,000 SAT). Really not looking forward to going through this again, but here we go…

Awesome news on Colorado College. Thanks for sharing.

I, unfortunately, do not have an update on our CC friend. No one is answering her cell phone or monitoring her email, so I have no news. I am hoping to hear a response at some point and will post when I do.

Great news, moments caught!! Happy to hear it. :)

Thanks for the update, Momentscaught. I’m glad to hear that your son is so happy.

Any comments on Jewish life at University of Missouri? I know it has a relatively small Jewish population for its size. Thanks.

I haven’t read or posted in this thread in awhile but want to wish every one a Happy New Year!

Moments, my niece went to Colorado College (class of '04.) Met a nice Jewish boy there and they are married now. Lots of NE kids go to CC.

Happy and healthy New Year to all of you!! Shanah Tovah!
