Colleges in Big Cities?

Hello! First off- my PSAT scores were 920 (math really pulled me down.) I’m in two honors classes now, will be in an honors class and 2 APs next year. I have really bad social anxiety, and I feel like living and going to college in a large city will make life a lot easier. However, I know that most colleges in big cities are difficult to get into, and my grades are nothing above average. So essentially, I’m looking for a college that is not too difficult to get into in a big city (preferably in the northeast, and good public transport would be a plus) and money really isn’t an issue. If anyone has any suggestions, please do share. Thanks!

Use the ‘Find a College’ feature on tbe menu tab at the top of this website.

Keep your mind open to colleges that are close to a big city as well! Also, there’s a lot of other factors for colleges, such as your major, how close you want to be to home, size of school, etc. I suggest researching a bit more to narrow down you want first.

Drexel - Great school with high acceptance rate, but doesn’t give much financial aid.

La Salle - Good school with high acceptance rate. I got lots of aid/scholarships with only a 3.3, and I’ll probably attend!

Temple - A reach for some, and a safety for others. Average GPA is 3.4, but this year was very competitive! Public school, but not too expensive.

Temple is definitely a good option, you could also apply to BU under CGS, thats how i got in

There are plenty of universities in big cities in the northeast. Just in NYC the CUNY schools are quite good. The other options listed in the thread are great as well.

What do you consider a “big” city?

CUNYs (City university of New York) are not super hard to get into and are reputable. And they have very cheap tuition if you’re in state (~$7000). NYC public transportation is extensive.

College of Charleston, Southerwestern, Texas State, Augsburg, Hamline, St Thomas (MN), Roosevelt, Oglethorpe, USC Columbia, Duquesne, UCincinnati, UDenver, Carroll-Montana, Manhattan College, LaSalle, Nebraska Wesleyan…
If you’re a girl: Chatham, Trinity Washington, St Catherine’s

Denver is a larger city with good public transportation and virtually every school in the city is not particularly difficult to get accepted into. Regis University, CU Boulder (very easy to get into Denver without a car), and Metro State University/ CU Denver (commuter schools that have the same campus) all welcome average students. University of Denver is a more selective and residential college, but it’s still not terribly difficult to get into.

Suffolk University is very easy to get into and welcomes wealthy students. It is in Boston.

Other non Northeastern schools in cities with good public transit and that are not terribly selective:
-University of San Francisco
-University of Portland
-Seattle University
-Depaul University
-Lewis & Clark College
-Loyola University Chicago
-La Salle University

What are your interests? Will you need financial aid? If finances aren’t a huge concern, then Pace is definitely a good option for you. DePaul might be within reach, also.

The average admitted students GPA at DePaul is 3.56. I would say its out of reach, but give it a shot! Its a great school.
