I'd recommend checking out Humboldt State- it's a very green and liberal college, it offers majors in Art and several areas of Environmental Studies, the area is supposed to be beautiful and full of outdoor activities... It's close to the oceanside, but I don't know specifically about beaches, or about the social activities available. But it fits most of your criteria, so I'd give Humboldt a look.

I second Humboldt state (Humboldt State University). Art is the second most popular major after natural resources, it has the largest foundry on the west coast, is VERY outdoor oriented, in the redwoods-on the beach. Has it's own ocean going vessel for undergrads, very environmentally oriented. Not too cold, though it does rain a bit. Check out the website and especially the fly over video. S just graduated from there and he, like most of his friends find it a very hard place to live. Also, the touring companies (music, theatre, etc.) tha come through are amazing.

I third Humboltd state university! lol
I would say UC santa cruz is a good match too but being an out of state student, the requirements just get harder and i think they'd rather take California students. Both schools have moderate weather and are generally near the coast. Good luck with your search.

The weather in Humboldt is often cold, damp and rainy. Great school though for certain kids.

Last year we had students get in to UCSD and NOT San Diego State. The eligibility index was crazy. So I don't think you'd get in.

I like Occidental. Very cool school and kids like it. Your stats are a bit low for that school, but it is going to be a tough year for the privates so you may have a shot. Our students are applying to many more CA publics and really looking for merit $ in the privates.

I also like Santa Clara (a bit conservative) and Pitzer. You could also do 60 units at community college, get residency and go for a UC transfer. There are articulation agreements almost everwhere and the UC Berkeley transfer GPA was around 3.3. UC Santa Barbara (perfect school for you) transfer GPA was closer to a 3.1 with guaranteed admission if you complete the 60 units with a 3.0.

Lots of our students find this website helpful:

Welcome to ASSIST

Good luck.

Just reread my post and I meant to write "finds it a very hard place to LEAVE" (not live - they find that very easy! ) :0

I believe you need a 3.4 GPA to be eligible to apply to a UC out of state.
