Colleges in GOOD neighborhoods

Ok....we've been hearing about all those that are in so called bad neighborhoods. What colleges are in the good neighborhoods?? My son goes to UCSD and the neighborhood is GREAT!!

Stanford is GREAT too. It's basically its own city. Everyone you see at Stanford has something to do with the school. They are either students or work there. Stanford is SO HUGE and has SO few students that nighttime strolls around the campus or neighbouring parts are relatively safe. The place itself just reinforces that feeling of safety.

Chapman University in Orange County. My friend goes there and I hear all of OC is great.

Reed College is in a nice neighborhood in a suburban feeling section of Portland, which is a pretty nice northwestern city.
I like that it isn't isolated and that it is just a short walk or a bus ride to more exciting parts of the city/area

i love northampton, ma (where smith is). it's small, ~30k people, but really pretty and a lot to do. also lots of great outdoorsy activities nearby.

Carnegie Mellon is in a pretty good neighborhood (Pittsburgh)and the downtown is close, clean, and the transportation to and from is FREE!

Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design share "College Hill" in Providence. It's a wonderful historic district. (Many of the homes have plaques saying when they were built -- mostly late 1700's and 1800's). Quaint New England cottages, narrow streets lined with big shade trees, quiet and safe. And within walking distance of downtown and the regional shopping mall! Definitely a GOOD neighborhood!

Princeton's neighbourhood is also very safe, quiet, quaint - an elegant suburn in NJ. The only problem is that it's not really a college town, per se - it caters more toward the upmarket society, and its shops are a little pricey.

d. was specifically looking for small LAC with easy access to city but not right in the city. Swarthmore fit the bill perfectly. Campus is drop dead gorgeous (National Arboretum) in a nice suburb and the train station is right on campus. She and friends go into Philly about once a month and also went to New York easily from campus.

Yes, Swarthmore PA is a very nice area.

UCI. Irvine is the purest of pure cities. Now a little ways over to Newport...that's different.
