Colleges near/with mountains

Appalachian State University in Boone ,NC

University of Vermont in Burlington is near 3 great ski mountains. And New Paltz is near to the Shawgunks - beautiful and excellent hiking/snowshoeing.

SUNY New Paltz is a few minutes from some great hiking and rock climbing in the mountains, the Gunks as the above poster mentioned. Mohonk Mountain is right down the road from Main Street…we drove up there a couple of times and it was amazing. In the winter it was like an ice wonderland and in the fall, summer and spring it was beautiful…lots of hiking trails. There is also horseback riding and camping and the rock climbing is big too. The school is big into those avtivities.

Berry College in Georgia is the largest campus in the country - it literally includes its own mountain, Mount Berry:

I’m shocked that there was only one mention of Western State College of Colorado. It is the HIGHEST 4 year college in the nation at 7,700 ft in elevation so if you are truly looking for a school IN the MOUNTAINS, THIS IS IT!! It is in the heart of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and is a small school close to Crested Butte ski area. The students are VERY active there and love the outdoor activities!

But aren’t the students at Boulder higher?

Pomona, Williams, a couple colleges in Minn but i don’t know the names

Check Out St Lawrence University north of the Adironacks in New York State . Check out the video on the school website and I bet you would want to go there. They have a golf coarse which turns into a cross country ski run in the winter and beautiful hiking is all around.

Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. Best camping and hiking area in the southwest. Gorgeous ponderosa pine forests, the views are spectacular. The Milky Way at night is bright enough to drive by (not that I would recommend it). And you’ve got an incredible choice of environments to choose from: alpine, scrub, sonoran dessert, high dessert. The Grand Canyon is only a couple hours away. And if your into skiing, they have a ski resort on San Francisco Peak. And nobody really owns anything outside of the cities. BLM land means endless exploring.

Make sure you have a capable vehicle. I learned that the hard way.

Nice pun and a true statement.

UC Berkeley’s MSRI is on something resembling a mountain…

Universities in Anchorage and Juneau Alaska = big mountains, if you’re(most likely) into long distance and winter weather.

What do you think of when you hear mountains?

Colorado

What’s the best school in Colorado?

The Colorado School of Mines. Right outside Denver at the foothills of the rockies. Not to mention it is recognized as one of the best engineering schools in the country.

colorado school of mines

Since the OP asked this question four years ago I’m not sure that’s helpful at this point.

Go to University of Denver!
