note the lots of ties.

Grinnell in Iowa is really strong in creative writing. Some say it's the best.

Try this article, which has links to various creative writing program resources: http://collegehunt.blogspot.com/2005/08/good-schools-for-creative-writing.html

Strong undergraduate creative writing programs include: Oberlin, Bennington, Sarah Lawrence, Bard, Kenyon, Beloit, Emerson, Knox College, but there are many others out there. And, of course, there are many other EXCELLENT English programs which offer creative writing classes as well. I'd suggest focusing in on what you are looking for in a school overall (size, location, etc.) and then comparing English programs to see what is offered.

People need to take a closer look before posting random lists.

University of Iowa does not offer Creative Writing as an undergraduate study. It only has a graduate program, and then undergraduate for English Lang & Lit. Their writing program for undergraduates is all non-fiction and/or rhetorical writing, something very different from Creative Writing.

You really need to look at all of the colleges being listed here to see which one offers precisely what you want.

from the U Iowa website:
Although the Writers’ Workshop is a graduate program, undergraduates often take three writing courses as part of the major. Workshop faculty members teach undergraduate courses that any student may take: Creative Writing, Fiction Writing, Poetry Writing, and Creative Writing Studio Workshop.

Bowling Green has one of the nation's oldest creative writing programs and has graduated writers such as Carolyn Forche, Dara Wier, Barbara Paul, Robert Ferrigno, Jim Daniels, et al...
