So, I'm trying to find schools that do not count your freshman year grades. My overall gpa is ~3.6, but without the 3.2 from freshmen year, it would be much higher. I think I am a candidate for top 20 or so schools, but I'm looking for schools that disregard your freshmen year grades. I know that Princeton, Stanford, and the UC's dont count it, but if you guys could help me find some more that would be great.

Carnegie Mellon.

sleepsalot-- none of the UCs count freshman grades in their “UC gpa” calculation. But like most schools, they don’t simply erase them. They are there to see, but not given much weight. I would say weight to coursework grades is approximately given thusly:

50% Junior year
20% Senior 1st semester (obviously n/a for ED/EA applicants)
20% sophomore year
10% freshman year.

This is not a good criterion for choosing a school. Apply to those you like, are a good fit, match your interests, etc., and then let the schools pick you.

Johns Hopkins doesn’t count freshman year.

limabeans, where have you heard that Johns Hopkins doesn’t count freshman year?

I believe UMichigan doesn’t, I’m not 100% though.

I believe UMichigan recently changed their policy. I think they do count freshman year now.

To tell you the truth, I don’t think any of the colleges don’t count freshmen year. however, I do know that some colleges think of you better if you improve your grades over time than other colleges. If anybody wants to look into that.
