Which colleges/universities are good and need more recognition?

Maybe William and Mary, Carleton, Oberlin...

LACs in general.

Strict training schools don't get a lot of attention, like the joe kubert school for cartooning.

wisconsin and illinois have amazing programs but arent recognized for some reason

Berkeley...;)

(I agree with Lurker, U Wisconsin and UIUC are underrated).

We had a whole thread of "no-name" schools going on for a while that would be really helpful for those of you who are looking for solid safe schools.

In terms of elite and relatively well-known schools, I would say that Oberlin, Bryn Mawr, Barnard, and Colorado College, among many many many others, don't get as much love as they should.

Found it!:

Propsective students on the West Coast should know more about Lafayette, Lehigh, Trinity in CT, Hamilton, College of the Atlantic, Univ of Delaware, and others, and also Denison, Lawrence, St. Olaf, Beloit, Kalamazoo, for a start.

Prospective students on the East Coast should know more about Chapman, Occidental, Univ of Redlands, Univ of the Pacific, University of Denver, Colorado College, Willamette, Whitman. And also Denison, Lawrence, St. Olaf....:)

Some of these are mentioned in the "lesser known" thread. It is really amazing how many solidly wonderful colleges there are out there.

I thought Denison got a lot of credit.

Reed deserves a mention. Its recognized in academic circles, but when I tell people I'm applying there (living in Chicago), all I get are blank stares.

Haverford / Bryn Mawr could also stand for better press. But maybe its just a midwest thing...

Washington University in St. Louis....UCD, UCI....

Grinnell, Colby, CMC, Scripps, Pomona, Oxy

I've been very impressed with my son's experience at the University of Denver. ....both academic and otherwise. It was one of his safeties but he fell in love with it and chose to go there rather than some of the more popular schools he was accepted to. I think if it were located in the east it would be a lot more popular and more recognized.

William & Mary, Davidson, Tufts, Rice, Carleton, Brown, Wake Forest are definitely better than their press coverage.

Bowdoin, Holy Cross, W&L .

Ah yes, the Holy Cross business again^

I consider myself from the west coast and knew nothing about Emory, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, College of William and Mary (thought it was a LAC), and Case Western, until recently

rice!!!!!!!!

Let's just say any college that isn't an Ivy (add Stanford and MIT) or a flagship state university.

College of Wooster, Earlham, Ohio Wesleyan, Wabash
