I speak with a lot of colleges and they say they have a 90% or higher rate into med school because of their very strong pre-med program. I mean when you think of academic strength, the schools that come in mind, especially for medicine, are Duke, Hopkins, cornell, harvard, UPenn, Wash U, Umichigan-Ann arbor..

But when I spoke with some random colleges...i.e.- Widener University, Duqesne University, Stevens Institute of Technology, University of Scranton...they claim that they have a great Pre-Med program with such high acceptance rates into Med School...

Are they lying and simply trying to boost their reputation, or is it the truth. I mean ranking and reputation speaking these are Tier 2 and Tier 3 institutions that make this claim on their websites and on the phone. I am just appalled whether it is the truth or not????

Even if it is true, I think it's obvious that the med-schools that accept grads from JHU or WUSTL are much better than the ones accepted by the schools with lesser reputations.
However, that is not to say that you can't get into a great med-school from those lesser-known schools, it's just not as common.

Actually, these school do aggressive screening of their "pre-meds" usually by a pre-med committee and weed out those students who might not get accepted. This happened at Wittenberg U when I went there in the 1970's. The committee reviewed GPA's and test scores and then conducted interviews. Then we were told whether or not we would get a recommendation that would be good or one that was not. You can bet everyone knew who would get in and who would not if they applied. Only those who knew they would get good rec's applied...thus a 100% acceptance rate to med school.

There are also weed out science classes so only the most talented and motivated stay in the program

and even if you don't go to a "great" med school, you can still make as much money as someone who did go to one.
