When I was visiting Carnegie Mellon to potentially do my graduate studies there, the professors went by their first name. One of my grad school professors also went by his first name, but he was the only one in the department to do so.

Bard College at Simon’s Rock does this, which I am going to apply this fall. I think it will be different, I just can’t see calling a teacher by his/her first name.

Stanford–in all the classes I’ve taken here over the past 2 years, virtually all my professors introduce themselves with their first name, and we call them by that.

When I visited a class at Northwestern, the professor introduced herself with her first name (and only her first name). I’m guessing it’s an individual preference. This was a pretty small and casual class.

Bennington

I think Sarah Lawrence may, not sure. It seems most of the liberal arts schools do this, wonder why?
