Music is a very important part of my life. While I don’t play, and am not musically talented, I love to discuss and interact with people when it comes to music. I am looking potentially for a college that has a significant part of the student population that is more so into the independent scene. It would be nice to have friends that share the same passion for music as me. Off the top of your head, do you know any schools that have something along this sort?
Oberlin. Has an amazing music conservatory attached to the college itself, so the college is filled with music of all types all the time.
Johns Hopkins and URochester also have conservatory as part of the school (I’m sure there are many others). Some people I know who are very into music went to colleges as varied as Wesleyan, UT-Austin, Carnegie Mellon, Bard, and UMiami. I’d say that it is important to read up on each school and visit if possible.
The range from URochester to Wesleyan to Skidmore may be a productive place to look.
UT-Austin, or any of the schools in downtown Nashville. You only have to walk a few blocks to be in the center of it.
By that same logic, you could say Tulane. It’s nearly impossible to escape good music in NOLA.
What kind of music? The majority of the schools mentioned are more classically inclined. If you’re interested in indie the maybe look at schools in good towns for that like Austin, Portland OR, Seattle…
