I’m on the search for a college with a strong dance theatre program but don’t know where to start?
One of the dance magazines (Dance Spirit?) publishes a guide to college dance programs every year, so see if your library has it or order it online. All programs have things that they focus on - some are performance based and others prepare dance teachers. It takes a big effort to figure out which ones are in line with your interests. Consider whether you want a Bachelor of Fine Arts or a major. Ask some of your dance teachers where they went to college.
On the practical side, consider how far from home you want to go, your budget and the type of college campus you are looking for. Budget is particularly important because dance is a tough field and the burden of student loans is something to avoid.
