I’m a South-Korean student, and i am looking for colleges with good engineering programs that can offer undergrad international students financial aids.
I was recommended bucknell, olin college, tufts, cooper union, and georgia tech.
Are these colleges generous with financial aids for international students?
And most importantly, what other colleges would you recommend?
(UW GPA: 4.9 on 5.0 scale, SAT: 800M 740E, SAT II: 800 physics 800 Math )
For any school that interests you, you can look up information about FA to international students in section H6 of the Common Data Set file. Google for [school name] + “Common Data Set”, open the file, and navigate to that section. It will tell you whether FA is available to international students, and if so, how many of them received it in the referenced year, as well as the average award amount. It doesn’t tell you anything, though, about the qualifications of international students who received awards. Section C has general information about admission selectivity.
The following Wiki page presents an overview of FA policies at many universities (most of them private):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Need-blind_admission
As you can see, very few are need-blind and also claim to meet full demonstrated need for international students.
Many strong engineering programs are at state (public) universities. Many state universities don’t award any FA at all to internationals. For example, Georgia Tech does not.
Cornell University has a good reputation for engineering. For 2015-16 it awarded FA to 199 international students, averaging almost $55K per student. You also might want to check out Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, and the University of Southern California. These are all very selective schools (but then, so are Cooper Union, Tufts, Olin, and to a slightly lesser degree, Bucknell).
