East Carolina
U of Arizona
Arizona State

Some of the schools known for their bands are pretty competitive to get in - Penn State comes to mind. OSU is more brass than reed-centric so if you are a sax player it might not be for you.

Notre Dame
Wake Forest?
Vanderbilt

BTW, I meant the band, not the school is competitive to get in.

There are lots of kids from N.J. at East Carolina University.http://www.ecu.edu/band/

OK thank Will check it out. :)

do you think i can get into those with my GPA/grades i mentioned (vanderbilt, Notre Dame?)

^Depends on the SAT score. Try to get 1900+. You still have 1 year to increase that GPA.

For Vandy and ND, the student really needs to be closer to a 2100 SAT unless he’s a URM or has some other big hook. Right now, a 2100 SAT is low for Vandy.

edited to add. Your GPA isn’t high enough and if you’re a junior, your GPA can’t rise fast enough to make a difference.

*My family members have been saving every since i was little for my cousins and I. *

You really need to ask. If there is some kind of “group effort” and “group savings,” to send all the cousins to college, there may not be enough money to spend $220k for ONE child to go. The budget may be for cost of a state school. You need to ask.

You play the trumpet? Temple Owls.

i play alto saxophone

Tulane may be a match for you.

i will check it out. thanks!

Aha, alto sax - you fooled me with “aiming the horn high” which is a real trumpet thing, so I thought maybe your name was Noah Sax. You still might look at Temple for music education. MSU and Indiana also.

D2 decided to forgo Tulane partly because the band seemed too small. Same for Elon.
She played in the band at U of Arizona.

msu as in Michigan st

Some of the smaller D-1 universities have pretty marginal bands. Duke, Wake, Tulane - their bands probably wouldn’t pass muster for a serious musician. Rice, Stanford and all the Ivies except Cornell have scramble bands - parodies of marching bands.

Yes, Michigan State, not one of the other MSUs like in Mississippi or Minnesota

Noahsax96 - Marching Scarlet Knights? ;)

I’ve heard that TCU is trying to build its band up right now
