ok, i know middlebury has a great language program, but i've pretty much ruled the school out for various reasons. washington and lee, which someone suggested, gets the axe b/c of greek life plus i go to a high school in AL like the university. i hear that michigan has good language programs, but i don't know if i could get in. i have a 4.19 w gpa, 600 m 700 cr 720 w, 31 ACT,
(will retake SAT), 800 on us history SAT II, 740 on lit SAT II, i take french, spanish, and latin all at the advanced level

Michigan has excellent language programs (especially if you wish to study a language like Arabiv or Chinese), but so do most good universities. What language are you looking to study? Michigan is definitely within your reach, especially if your unweighed GPA is over 3.7.

Penn, Wisconsin, and Indiana are schools with reputations for excellence in languages. These schools stand out for the variety of languages they offer. If there is a particular language in which you're interested, however, other schools might come to mind.

Most universities have solid Romance Languages departments. But it gets much thinner once you look into Middle Eastern and Asian languages. The big schools, like Chicago, Columbia, Indiana, Michigan, Penn and Wisconsin are worth a look.

u chicago is one of my top choices and i'm applying to georgetown EA (but won't be surprise if i get rejected), but i really could not get into brown/yale/any ivy league

I don't think OP has really a good shot at most of the top 10 privates, though Georgetown is an awesome choice especially for non-European languages

i heard midd was very very homogeneous (*sp)
plus i live in Alabama, so it's a bit far away
i also heard that it's not that tolerant of other races
it's lots of prep school kids (or so i hear)
plus i don't have a good chance of getting in

Kalamazoo in Michigan belongs on any list of schools strong in languages. It is a LAC that sends about 90% of its kids overseas at one point or another.
