Colleges with low OOS tuition or great amounts of aid that are good in engineering

What are some schools that are good in engineering but have low or moderate OOS tuition? I really want to go to UT Austin but its $40000 to go there and I probably won't earn much aide. My ACT is 29 and I have a 3.88 unweighted GPA, 4.03 weighted. Thanks!

Your actual net price limit and state of residency?

Live in Arizona, my parents can afford $10000 a year, maybe a little bit more.

OP, you won’t get any aid except federal from UT. Look at the northern tier schools like r South Dakota State or SD School of Mines. Or you can look at your home state Us…

Is Arizona State affordable on the net price calculator?

These are the best low cost engineering schools I can think of:

Iowa State University

University of Minnesota- Twin Cities

University at Buffalo

Your in-state public

University of Virginia is one of the few public schools that meets need for out-of-state students.

At a $10,000 price limit (perhaps $19,000 if you add a Stafford loan and some work earnings to your parents’ $10,000), there really is not much choice at list price (South Dakota State), so you need to look for either good need-based aid (net price calculator) or big merit scholarships.

Some schools like New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology may offer Western Undergraduate Exchange discounts, though you would still likely need additional need-based or merit aid to afford them.

Here’s a list to check: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1473219-research-universities-lowest-oos-tuition.html</a></p>

Also the Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama schools on that list will give some merit aid for your stats to bring the price lower.

Here are some that will waive OOS tuition automatically based on stats: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1505285-automatic-out-state-tuition-waivers.html</a></p>

Louisiana Tech would probably end up with a net price of $10K for you, for example, based on waiving OOS tuition and a merit award in the $3-4K range.

Have you looked at Missouri S&T - Yes, I know it doesn’t sound like much, but they are very highly respected in the Engineering world - [Missouri University of Science and Technology](http://www.mst.edu). They have some pretty decent scholarships for out of state if you have the grades/scores.

My youngest son wants to go there because they are one of the few schools that offer an engineering degree with expertise on demolition. Then again, he is only 10 and like the idea of blowing stuff up!

You may want to consider New Mexico Tech. Good engineering, relatively low tuition.
