Wait, what about my GPA? I can’t find the GPA stats on CollegeBoard, Princeton Review, or College P r o w l e r ? I’m starting to worry again because of 2 reasons now:
My GPA may be too low
My SAT Critical Reading score is only 490 and lots of colleges don’t look at the Writing section.

P r o w l e r has outdated GPA and standardized test stats, as well as outdated acceptance rates. The only thing that is up to date are the student reviews that you’ll find in each of the subcategories on the left-hand menu.

there’s still the october sat and november sat too.

honestly there’s really nothing to freak out about… i mean your stats are good. you WILL get into one of these colleges there’s no doubt about it. just research the schools and look up the stats. going on the website of the actual college will give you real accurate stats but not all colleges post that on the website. researching the schools is the most important part and it takes A LOT OF TIME to do that.

Thanks for the info on College Board; it really helps! Also, now I discovered that some colleges like Northeastern, American, and Penn State Uni Park are actually reaches. What I am really worrying about is my GPA and SAT Reading score. Being me, it’s hard to study for the SAT or ACT. I barely have ever studied for the SAT. If I do manage to actually study like 30-60 min a day from now until the October SAT, can I really improve in this little time? I will try to, but is it worth it?

You should really try studying for it. If you improve your score it’ll definitely be worth it. Sacrifice a little time out of your day to familiarize yourself with the test. Then on test day you’ll be less stressed and more confident. At least this has been my aim with the ACT, but it applies to all test taking. Don’t worry so much about these admissions sites. Colleges don’t only look at your test scores and GPA. If those aren’t your strong points, focus on your essay and EC’s. It may be a cliche, but if you don’t apply to the more selective schools there is absolutely no chance you’ll get in. Have a safety or two that you would be pleased with going to and two or three matches that your stats are similar to And then pick two or three reaches that you have always dreamed of going to.

Thanks for your input; I am feeling more optimistic about this. Hopefully it is enough to get me started ASAP. Also, is applying to about 10 colleges overkill? About how much would that cost?

I’m applying to 10. It just depends on whether or not you want to have a lot of choices to pick from when you decide where to go. If you only really like four schools then apply to only four. But I wouldn’t apply to schools just for the sake of it. I like really like all the schools I’m applying to. And application gees can range from $50-$70. So if you apply to ten schools you are looking at $500-$700. I know… It’s a lot haha.
