Columbia 2016 ed thread

Just got contacted for an interview today! Does anyone know what percentage of Columbia ED applicants get deferred? I can’t seem to find this information anywhere

Does everyone gets interview or only selected people (screened applicants who might have better credentials)? Does anyone know?
Thanks

anyone gets interview its done on availability, so the website says. if u dont get one it will not be a disadvantage they will just look at recommendations more to gauge personality

The defer rate last year was 696 out of the 3,229 who people applied to Columbia’s early decision program, with 632 accepted. So an acceptance rate of 19.57% and a deferral rate of 21.55%.

In regards to interviews - I might have to reschedule mine (slotted for next Monday) because my school wants me to host a school-wide Physics tutorial for high school and, good grief why, some College students after school. And I don’t know if it’ll be done by the 4PM interview time 'cause a lot of people do not understand Physics and are requesting if I can have “one on one” conferences. Hopefully this won’t reflect badly upon me, since it wasn’t exactly my decision.

Got contacted for an interview last night! It’s slotted for next Saturday.

Any other ED’ers from Toronto that got an interview yet?

Were you contacted by email?

Is it likely for an international applicant to get an interview?

^^ @glido Yes I was contacted by email. I thought I wasn’t getting an interview since it was nearly a month since I submitted my application.

^ @905416 I think it depends on where you live–urban areas are more likely to have Columbia alums, like Toronto.

Well I live pretty far away from Toronto so chances are pretty slim I guess… like I’m a few minutes walking from farms and cows.

Waiting anxiously for my SAT II scores because I took them in November. A bit dumb of me, really, to procrastinate on them but hopefully they’re good enough for Columbia because I applied ED!

Mathii 800 physics 640 - how much will this hurt me… I ED’d fu.

not a lot cos the 800 is strong, the 640 is the probably in a very low percentile for people admitted. people who are admitted with a 640 or something similar it is because they show promise in other areas i.e. maths in maths2. but sat ii scores are not a huge factor.

Thank you!!
