Columbia Announces a New Financial Aid Initiative

Beginning with the 2007-2008 academic year, Columbia College and The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science will eliminate loans for students from economically disadvantaged families earning less than $50,000 annually.
This will surely increase the # of applicants, huh?
Does this apply to transfer students? Are there any transfer students who are applying here?

1) look at other threads, this was reported weeks ago:

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=240360%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=240360</a></p>

2) your description of the change is misleading - stating that Columbia will "eliminate loans" is not a proper word choice. they are replacing all loans with grants for students in that income bracket. It is a net POSITIVE for low-income students, not a net negative.
