Columbia Art: Music Programs

How is columbia's music department and how does it compare to other ivy schools?

Columbia has an excellent music department -- music history, theory, ethnomusicology, and composition are included in the department, which features such respected professors as Walter Frisch and Eileen Sisman. It is one of the top graduate programs, along with UC Berkeley, Harvard, Yale, University of Chicago, UCLA, Princeton, Penn, and Cornell. Columbia pays for lessons for music majors, which is a valuable perk. For undergraduates, it offers a joint program with Juilliard, although few participate and it is apparently difficult to get in (must be accepted separately at both Columbia and Juilliard) and to coordinate if you do.

What about music performance as an undergrad?

what kind of music, guitargirl? I can tell you something about jazz, if that is what interests you.

Hey everyone..

how are the piano practice rooms? i know you have to sign up and it requires a fee... but how much? and does it fill up all the time? and are there ways i can practice piano for free? (i'm not a music major)

thanks!
