Columbia biology research? ANYONE?

I am interested in conducting molecular biology research at Columbia College. Does anyone know of anyone I can contact to get more info? please post the email addresses . thanks

the only thing i could help you with is apply for SURF, the paid research internship

i'm a high school student (Senior). Where is the SURF program and how can I apply?

SURF is for students already enrolled in Columbia and who are available in the city during the summer. I applied for SURF in the middle of my first year and am currently doing it now.
It's based on grades from high school and college, short essay, and test scores. You choose top 5 professors you would like to work with (they range from professors starting out to Nobel Laureates) and they'll match you with a professor based on similar interests. Freshmen, sophomores and juniors all apply.

<a href="http://www.columbia.edu/cu/biology/ug/surf/%5B/url%5D">http://www.columbia.edu/cu/biology/ug/surf/</a>
has the info on professors in various departments, including molecular bio, involved with SURF.

hope this helps,

I am very interested in SURF. You said it is for people available in the city. Does that mean that you have to find your own housing if you want to stay over the summer, or would you stay on campus?

either find your own housing or pay for oncampus housing.
I'm NYC born and raised so I didn't have that issue.

But a couple of fellow SURF students/good friends are also currently living with me at my apartment to dodge expensive oncampus housing. So that's another way to deal with it.

Plus, we're having a hell of a fun time living together during the summer.

Wow that's really cool. He's a Nobel laureate right? Was he your first choice? Also i heard it's really hard for freshman to get into SURF.. did you have a lot of prior research experience?

Yeah, he received his Nobel prize just last year, so his lab is really up and full of energy. A great experience for me to be a part of.
It's pretty difficult for freshmen to get in and I did have prior experience during high school, but nothing I was gloating about or anything really special. I know a few freshmen who got in with no prior experience. They got in because the professors they chose matched their interests in the field. Simple as that.
