Columbia, Brown, Yale, UPenn SAS, and Swarthmore

Oh boy, so I'm starting the transfer admission process a little late. I need help!

My profile:
-transferring from Dartmouth College (will coming from an Ivy help?)
-3.56 GPA (B+, A-, A-)
-probably good but not earth-shattering recommendations from my profs
-minor leadership role in a couple clubs, academic and non-academic
-2380 SAT
-780 and 740 SAT II
-high school GPA: 3.9
-solid high school extracurricular record

Judging from other posters, my GPA is probably on the lower end of the applicant spectrum for the schools I'm looking at. That's my biggest concern. Will that drop me out of consideration?
I realize chance threads are usually pointless, but I just wanted a general idea of whether or not I should spend my time applying. Like I said, I'm new to the transfer admission scene, so I could use any advice or insight available! Thanks so much everyone!

Why would you want to transfer out of Dartmouth?

i always tell people not to bother with yale. if you had a 3.8+ from dartmouth, then i’d say definitely go for it, but since it’s on the lower end i suggest scratching that off your list. the others i think are definitely possible if you write solid essays.

now that i’ve said that … come to cornell! lol i know 2 or 3 people from dartmouth applying to cornell for the fall so i might as well tell you to, too :)

You are hitting the median at Dartmouth. The only school which is clearly better than yours is Yale, and you will get rejected from there. You can try transferring to Brown - higher grade inflation there - but in my opinion it is just not worth the trouble.

I want to transfer because Dartmouth’s social culture just really isn’t for me. It’s a great school and I have pretty good friends; I just can’t stand the isolation and the fratty, hierarchical nature of the social life. It’s not a matter of shooting for a more prestigious school or anything…I need a change of pace. and I figure I can always decide whether or not I want to go through with transferring after I get my responses.

So is the consensus that I have a chance, albeit not a great one, at most of these schools (except Yale)?

A 3.56, even at Dartmouth, just isn’t going to cut it at other Ivies. You can try applying, but I suspect you’ll have little success.

i believe you do this to have a down to earth chance/opinion.However, from my own experience, you should try even if everything is against you. I was told to wait another semester or 2 , yet I was accepted to the only university i applied. my advice is check the transfer requirements (course work, number of credits , etc) and then GO FOR IT
