I'm a hispanic female junior hoping to get into Columbia, and I was wondering if Early Decision would substantially help my chances. In fact, what are my chances at all? I'm planning to major in either Chemistry or Biochemistry.

SAT: R:800 M:730 W:730 (I'm planning on retaking to try to boost the math and writing scores), taking SAT II in May (probably Chem, Math level 2, and Lit)
ACT: 35 (E:36, M:34, R:33, S:36, Essay:8)

GPA: 3.5 UW, 4.1 W (That's mostly because of my 2.9 UW freshman GPA. I have shown huge improvement.)

AP: 10th grade: Chem(4), 11th(current): Env Sci and Lang, 12th: Lit, Calc AB, Physics C, and Psych

EC: President of my area's chapter of Youth in Government; President of my school's political club next year; Secretary of the school Amateur Radio Club, have General Class amateur radio license; member of the local opera company's Youth Opera program for 6 years (between rehearsals, performances, etc, this takes about 15 hrs/wk)

I'm also organizing a project for the summer of 2010 where I and a small group of other teens from various areas of the eastern US walk 1000 miles, from Miami to Washington DC. Beforehand, we'll research the areas we'll be passing through, and along the way write and take pictures relating to the environmental degradation we see along the way and how people can help. When we get to DC, we'll meet with a few congresspeople (we have 2 reps and a sen on board already) and speak to them about laws they can implement to help the environment. Well be raising money to fund this, and any extra we get goes to the Sierra Club (which is helping us out with supplying along the way and talking to their local chapters and stuff). CNN has already shown interest in covering us as it gets closer to the actual event. I also have some friends on the west coast who might be able to pull together a similar and simultaneous thing over there.

Do I have any chance at all? What should I work on?
