Columbia ED Chances for SHPers

An interesting side note. I calculated, for the hell of it, the average acceptance rate for alumni of the Columbia Science Honors Program applying Early Decision to Columbia College. (Well, actually because I'm applying and I was tired of saying that I had a 106% chance, humorous as it may be.) Using the reported acceptance rates of 36% for Early Decision applicants and 70% for Science Honors Program applicants, the average acceptance rate for early SHP applicants should be around 80.8%.

(As another side note, the Columbia SHP is quite a prestigious program. Admission is more selective than Columbia College's early admission program; last year's early acceptance rate for the college was 26%, whereas the SHP acceptance rate was about 14%, if I recall correctly. Plus, it's a lot of fun. I strongly recommend it.)

this is kind of unrelated, but you don't happen to know the chances of ed admission for people who did their summer high school program do you?

No, not really. My apologies.

No, not really. My apologies.

ah well. thanks anyway, haha

Do you really enjoy the SHP? Because I find that the classes taught there are really kinda bad.... like really really boring. I dno, maybe it was just the 3 classes I took. =</p>

Well, I suppose it depends on your situation- on top of the classes, the SHP is my chance to be out and about in New York for as much time as I want to, so I definately enjoy it.

Which classes did you take? I'm enjoying Cosmology, and I enjoyed Number Theory and Symmetry, but I have heard that some classes (like Organic Chem) are extremely boring.
