That is not always true. If people work, then they maintain their grades throughout.
Make sure not to mention it as an excuse in the app.
Otherwise, your stats are great and you stand a good chance.

Columbia(ED)- Great Match overall and a bit if a boost since ED.
UChicago(EA)- Mid Reach
UMich(EA)- High Match
UVA(EA-McIntire)- Match
UNC Chapel Hill(EA)- if you applied to their business school it might be a low reach, otherwise it’s a match.

@terminatorr, ptgtimp, thatdude3270, thank you all for chancing. I’ll chance you gentlemen back shortly. Also, I applied to the business school at Chapel Hill, so Low Reach indeed.

Wow very strong. Good leadership and evidence of working hard to improve yourself and others around you. SAT Math score is a little low, but that’s being a bit picky. Overall I think you are a competitive applicant to all the schools you applied to.

My thoughts:
Columbia and Chicago are high match/low reach, Michigan is match, Chapel Hill and Virginia are lower match. Good luck!

What works for you: no financial aid requirement
What works against you: uber-competitive international admissions pool from India

Columbia(ED) - Reach - this will be difficult
UChicago(EA) - Reach, chances are quite variable based on the more subjective parts of your app. The essays are particularly important here. They do like MUN though, in my experience.
UMich(EA) - Match - possible
UVA(EA-McIntire) - High Match - UVA out-of-state admissions is tough, and I imagine out-of-country will be no different)
UNC Chapel Hill(EA) - Match - possible

You’ve applied to a nice set of schools EA. This will offer you flexibility to adjust your college list for RD depending on how you fare (or, if you get into all of them, you may not have to apply rd at all)

I predict you’ll get into UMich, UNC, and one of Chicago or Columbia, all of which are excellent schools.

The good: your co-curriculars are excellent. Kudos to you on that, and so are your test scores.
The bad: school grades aren’t the best, despite the predicted ones being great.

I’d say it really depends on your essays, and supplements (especially for U Chicago)
Do make sure someone else reads the supplements, and read them yourself after a few days. You might see something you want to change that you didn’t before.

All in all though, you’re a strong applicant.
Columbia: Low reach
Chicago: depends on the supplements but low reach, I’d say
As for the others, they’re all targets

@Nihilus: Thanks for the chance! Unfortunately, I’m no longer in the UMich EA pool because my counsellor forgot to send them something. Also, the UVA and Chapel Hill results come out in Jan/Feb so I can’t really fine-tune my RD colleges. However, I’m applying to an entire spectrum of them(like, 20-odd+most UCs), so I will hopefully get in somewhere. I may have a shot at UChic/Columbia, but I’m expecting the worst. Debating whether to ED2 to Tufts/Claremont McKenna, or go with the RD. Thoughts?

@sah14721: Thank you for the chance, too! As mentioned earlier, my school grades are fine for the context I’m in. The class average in 11th grade was somewhere between 58-60%(mostly in the early-mid 60%, accounting for differences in subjects, scale of deflation, and difficulty). I am at about 74-76%(with math+econ, which is the toughest combination for Commerce kids). The highest in English was a 78(possibly 80), for example. Same with Econ. Therefore, I have reason to believe that my school grades are reasonably good(as stated by my high school counsellor), though I’m far from being a valedictorian/salutatorian.
As for the supplements, I think my UChic one is crazy enough, if somewhat fantastical(in a scientific sense). I’m banking on them liking something that’s a little esoteric.

Stanfordmania, don’t ED2 to tufts/Claremont McKenna unless you want to spend your college life thinking what could have been. If your TOP choice offers ED2, do it. Otherwise I recommend you go on with the RD.
Best of luck anyways. You have a pretty strong chance.

Looks like Columbia was a no-show, folks. Got me a big 'ol rejection letter. Let’s see what happens with UChic, and then on to the RDs. Fingers crossed for an Ivy!

UChic deferred me :
I strongly believe that my incomprehensible grades were to blame. But I am taking rectifying action now, so hopefully I’ll fare better in the RDs. Good luck to you all!
