I know ED is this November but I just wanted to put my stats and activities out there to see what you all thought. Please let me know what you think my chances are.

Born and adopted in Russia
Lived in Hong Kong until 2010, then moved to Chicago and got my citizenship then

-Intern for my Governor
-Campaign for 2020 presidential candidate
-president of environmental club- service and change in school
-Captain on varsity wrestling team
-applied to be a senate page this summer
-applied for NHS and SNHS

  • in humanities honors program at school w/ minimum GPA requirement
    -work at refugee center in Chicago
    -170+ hours of service working with communities in the city
    -leader of Pax Christi at my school (like amnesty international, write letters to congress)
    -plan a yearly trip to DC for a conference with other Catholic schools and meeting with our senators/reps
    -Model UN- award winner
    -leader in a program called LA way which I helped start to ease the transition from 8th grade to freshman year
    -working on an independent research project with a Loyola U professor on the school to prison pipeline
    -member of torch club (my school’s olderst club, for planning dances and service)
    -help with the adoption board of IL (I’m adopted so there’s a tie there)
    -young Republicans leader- plan fundraising and advocacy events
    -paid job at local grocery store
  • service trip to disabled community (Larche) during spring break
    -currently working on a writing project with my counselor who used to be a writer about my story
    -peer tutor for underclassmen

My theme is a political advocacy/social justice thread- then paired with my story i think it would be nice and I REALLY love Columbia and NYC and think I would make a great fit with the students.

How are your finances? You need to be very rich or not very rich at all to be able to afford Columbia or any private school.

So I would say you are qualified…but…

What are your match/safety schools? Many many qualified people apply to Columbia but only 7% get in (~20% ED).

Finances aren’t that big of an issue for me so I’m okay on that end. For my match/safeties: Fordham, GWU, NYU, American.

How good a wrestler are you? If you’re competitive for the IL state championship, you’re probably a shoo-in.

I’d play down the GOP political activity and interning for Rauner. Most everybody at Columbia is a liberal Dem. I don’t think they’re impressed by Senate page either. Play up Pax Christi.
