Columbia Essay: Single or Double Spaced?

So I'm about to upload my essay and I had an urgent question.

Is the essay supposed to be single or double spaced?

It’s not indicated so it’s your choice. I personally will single-space because I think it looks better (and shorter), and is easier to scan over since it is one page rather than two.

I went in the middle-ground and made mine about 1.5 space. It’s the content that matters anyway.

anyone else please

i think it should be 1 page for ease of reading. the psychology of turning the page makes the person less able to read your essay as fully as possible. so whatever spacing necessary for it to stick on one page is my suggestion.

Oh, so that’s why we use scrolls instead of books!

Seriously, how can you guys think this matters in the least? Spend your time writing a better essay, or worrying about things you can’t change.

conorske because i have experience with this…and i know it matters.

anyhow this is a recommendation not a command, the folks can do what they want. in the end life is about taking as much information as possible, deciding what is important and then doing your own twist on it.

they can follow your vague advice and write a ‘better essay’ - but that might yield them 2-3 pages. giving yourself a mental limit at 1 page means that you need exposition and narrative to come out quickly, you can’t dilly around. so not only is it practical from the readers perspective, but most closely allows the writer to answer the question.

Just do as much spacing so that it fits exactly on one page with 1" margins all around. I think mine ended up being like 1.3"
