Hi Guys,
I am new to this site, but I always love reading it so I decided to sign up. I am a student at Suffolk County Community College in Long Island NY. I am applying to many top-tier colleges, but Columbia GS is my first choice. I just submitted my App for early action decision tonight. I am just curious if anybody out there could give me a rough idea of what my chances are/what their accpetance rate is? I have a 3.7 GPA, I am graduating with honors, I am in multiple honor socities including Who’s Who, Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Kappa Delta and Psi Beta. I was a paid tutor for the college for about a year and a half, I am the Editor-in-Chief of the college paper, I am on multiple committees and I was selected to receive the Suny Chancellor Award for Student Excellence, coming up this April. I am also nominated for the Distinguished Student Award (a suffolk award), and Student of the Year. The last two are still up in the air. I have never taken the SAT, but did just take the GSAE at Columbia two days ago. My application is finalized, letters of rec are submitted and it is simply a waiting game at this point. Any information with respect to my chances would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
-Ray
Chancing may make you feel better, less anxious, whatever, but in the end nobody can know how you’ll do. I only got into my safeties this past year, when I and others thought I would be in at my match school and that I had a decent chance at my reach.
Also, I looked at your post and I wouldn’t have commented either! I know next to nothing about Columbia and levels other than undergrad.
I suspect that the number of people on College Confidential who have experience transferring to Columbia is vanishingly small.
Another, entirely legitimate reason you received few/no replies is your inquiry concerns Columbia School of General Studies. CC participants (hopefully) have some knowledge and/or experiences to apply in their responses. Columbia GS is an “odd duck;” few others universities have a similar entity and, I believe, none of the Ivies or other most-selective, top-ranked universities do. Therefore, it’s entirely likely that the fifteen viewers who read your question had NO knowledge and NOTHING to contribute, because they are entirely unfamiliar with Columbia GS (which, after all, is quite atypical and has far different admissions standards than Columbia College/Columbia University).
Individuals who provide answers on CC devote their time, talent, experience, and expertise (sometimes very considerable) to assist others. Their silence is not ill-mannered, however, I wonder if they feel your unfounded criticism is?
