Hi there! Congratulations to those admitted!
I applied for Early Decision March 1st deadline. Any other applicants who did as well?
I’m 27, had a 5 year gap in my education since I left college to work full time to help my family.
I’ve been in CC since spring 2019 and will graduate now in May.
GPA: 3.53/4.0
PTK member
Math Tutor/Math Teaching Assistant at my college.
Have worked full-time as a flight attendant for 6 years now.
ACT(2010): 22
ACT(2020): 26
Letters of Rec: Economics professor and Math professor.
For the essay I wrote about my educational road, why I left college, what I did during my time out of college and in the workforce, what I learned about my strengths and weaknesses, what I acquired from my work experience, why I decided to go back to school, how Columbia would help me achieve my goals and what course specifically I want to take.
Hello, everyone. I’m new here. I submitted for early action in the last minute of the deadline!
I’m an international student.
I’m wondering if there are other international student applicants here.
I want to ask about the official English score(like TOEFL) that we have to submit.
I just met the minimum score… but I still feel it’s not enough.
Does anyone know if official English score is important in admission for international students??
I do not have direct knowledge as to how the admission team views the language score, but it seems to me they only look at tests and numbers to make sure that you could make it in Columbia. It’s your history and your essay that really determines.
That being said, I’m not sure if minimum would do but language test is not the only evidence of your English ability. If you have a good essay and/or a decent GPA from a school taught in English, I wouldn’t worry about the score.
I doubt if they will be able to get back to us by May 1st with the virus going on, but don’t worry about it, man. We all have done our best, and we all will get our results.
Here is the info from the comment that xplains how to find your score. I had to go back to my application confirmation email from Columbia, and my test registration email, and the proctoring service email tio find the number referenced here. I don’t remember which email had it, but it took me three tried based on all the numbers you get assigned in the registration process:
@Study4life2 Here is how you get your scores. Go to https://studentportal.accuplacer.org/#/studentisr. In the box that requests your student ID # enter your application reference # located at the top right corner of your application. Do not use the CU # that you have received from Columbia via email. Simply just enter your application reference number and you will receive an email within two minutes displaying your GSAE scores. Let me know how you did. Good luck!
While things are definitely operating under extreme circumstances with COVID-19, all of the administrative services (including the admissions team) are still working remotely, and they are doing their best to make sure decisions come out roughly on time.
I’m currently active army waiting on a decision but our scores are almost exactly the same! Congratulations and I look forward to meeting you if I get accepted! Thank you for the information!
Yea I spoke with someone in the fin aid office during a virtual advising session and he seemed pretty confident that there would be some delay over normal but that they were hoping to have financial aid decisions out (for those admitted during EA).
Overall i got the impression from him, and some limited correspondence with the admissions office (who appear to be a little behind as they get everyone set up from WFH) that there will be a disruption, and the impact is relatively uncertain, but that they are doing a really good job at minimizing it and keeping on track at this time. Just my impression though.
@spark4654 no, I didn’t receive any email stating that they’d guarantee decision by May 1st. But on their site it says that they are rolling admissions and that they usually have decisions 6-8 weeks from application review and that they continue releasing until May 1st.
I submitted my application on the first of March but submitted my essay later on. Haven’t heard about an interview or anything like that. When they say decisions will be out from 6-8 weeks, do they mean after the main application form has been submitted or from when every single material has been submitted?
@procake the portal states that they will move to review your application once all materials have been submitted so it’s 6-8 weeks after all materials have been submitted, not the application.
