YESSS!! Congrats!!!
Yeah!!! Congrats!
Here’s the discord link just in case the other one’s already expired:
hey come check out Discord with me Discord
Accepted!
I still have nothing… I emailed the admissions office yesterday and they told me that they are requesting my final transcript
I found this really odd but does anyone know what that means because I don’t really see final transcripts being asked before getting a decision
I have also been accepted, congrats to all!
Final transcripts from college? Hmm, I’m not sure. Try calling tomorrow!
Hi, I wasn’t asked for final transcripts until after I got accepted
We did have to upload unofficial transcripts when we sent in the original application tho
Hi everyone. Is there anybody else who hasn’t received a decision nor an email asking them for something for early applications? Or am I the only one?
Hi all accepted people! Come chat with us on the discord… we’re already bored of each other!
@kevksi Did you include additional letters of recommendation on your resume? It was my understanding that we could only officially request 2.
Hi everyone,
I’m joining this thread after just withdrawing my transfer application from Columbia College and transferring it over to Columbia GS. I got an email that implied that I should consider doing this, and after an advising appointment with GS, I found out that I was eligible for this school and transferred my app over. I’ve always been super interested in Columbia University but am still new to the topic of GS. I’ve been doing my research on the school to get a better sense of what it’s all about, but there are still some questions I have left unanswered, and I thought I could drop them here for you guys who might have more insight than me at this point.
If accepted, what is the likelihood I can secure housing if I’m applying later in the admissions cycle?
I noticed that Columbia GS only awards BA degrees—does it matter to employers/grad schools whether you have a BS or a BA? (for context, I’m interested in majoring in science and going on to grad school or med school)
Do GS students have all the same opportunities as Columbia College students, like access to the same resources that Columbia University provides?
Is there a different level of prestige associated with GS than with Columbia College?
Right now, I have been accepted as a transfer to UVA (which is in-state for me and also nationally recognized) but have always been interested in Columbia. I know that at UVA I would be integrated into the student body as just another traditional student, whereas at Columbia I would be receiving an education for “non-traditional” students. Would a degree from Columbia GS be worth any less than a degree from a school like UVA?
Thanks so much in advance!!
I realize this is a lot of questions… I hope I don’t overwhelm anyone haha
Greetings. My name is Kevin. I am an admitted student to Columbia University School of General Studies and can answer a few of your questions.
Housing has always been competitive, and I have no additional data to provide regarding your chances.
BA and BS hold the same weight when it comes to employers. A BS, (Bachelor of Science) is science focused as supported in the DCP. A BA (Bachelor of Arts) is art focused and requires multiple years of foreign language.
Additionally, congrats on your admission to UVA. At Columbia, you would be fully integrated into the student body as a traditional student and would not be receiving an education for “non-traditional” students. You take the same classes, have the same professors, have the same student ID, and are fully integrated with the rest of the college. You also graduate with the rest of Columbia, and get the same Columbia University diploma as everyone else. There is no difference between a General Studies diploma, and a diploma from Columbia College. GS students also have the same academic and extra curricular opportunities as the rest of the college.
UVA and Columbia are both prestigious and a degree from either is a major feat. UVA is considered among the very best in the state school system and Columbia University is considered among the very best of the ivy league.
I would encourage you to apply, and then way your options if accepted.
I hope I was able to answer your questions. CHOW!
thanks so much Kevin!

Thank you for this much needed comic relief! Ahaha Congrats on your acceptance! How many LORs did you submit? I am sending one from my professor and mentor.
The diplomas are actually different between CC and GS. Columbia College diplomas are in Latin as opposed to it being printed in English for General Studies. But that’s about it, everything else education-wise is the same.
FinAid-wise, however, GS does not meet a student’s 100% financial need. You will have to take out significant loans to meet the cost of attendance. And the cost is pretty high.
You’re allowed only two, so that’s perfect.
SEAS and GS are the same
