Columbia Interviewer graduated last year?

Hello, I just got my email from my interviewer who is class of '09 - so I'm expecting somebody who is 22-24 yr old.

Just wondering but, is this normal? Does anybody else have a young interviewer?

My D had a VERY recent graduate for Georgetown. I think it’s a plus for you. You don’t risk old, gruff, set in their ways types like I saw at a recent “Other-Ivy” function. I’D be scared to be interviewed by this person…and I’m 50 years old! I think they’ll relate better, the conversation will be easier, they’ll expect something different from you (not be quite as offended if you lapse into Text-Speak, etc.). Good luck.

my interviewer back in the day was 23, it was awesome, he was really enthusiastic, professional, friendly, consider yourself lucky.

Mine is in his 50s.

I always get the old guys. :frowning:
I wanted somebody in their 20s because I think we would have more in common.

My interviewer was a Class of '09 (CC) as well. Expect a 21-23 year old. It is nice to have a young interviewer because it takes less to impress them and they can relate easily.

my Harvard one was class of '09 as well. it was good because he knew what it was like at Harvard RIGHT NOW

thanks all of you, i was just surprised because i never heard of an interviewer being so young, but as it turns out more and more Unis have decided that younger interviewers would be better —

dreaming92, how was your interview with Harvard?

My interviewer was a bit older. It slipped my mind to ask him what class he was, but we spent much of our interview discussing a lot of great jazz/popular music from the 70s, so he probably went to Columbia in the 80s or so. I’ll need to ask him to be sure, but I’m glad I had him as an interviewer. I think whether young or old, we would’ve established common ground, but it was really interesting learning about Columbia from a different perspective.

Cities and music, pretty much. My hope is that all of my interviewers are at least somewhat interested in those. Which are pretty common interests I think, especially at city schools.

Barty, it went very well, thanks :)
