columbia interview

this is my first (and only) college interview and i'm terrified.

how long do they usually last?
i'm not a good interviewer.

advice?

anyone know if it's too late to get an interview? I sent the first part of my app. in mid Nov :( I live in a major metropolitan area - you'd think someone would be available! :/

I applied around the same time, and I'm from NYC. I have yet to be contacted for an interview. I've had four for other schools already. I'm wondering the same thing!

I applied just before the deadlines...i still haven't been contacted by anyone-should i be worried? I've had 2 other colleges interview me already

^ no relax
i havent had mine too....
not having an interview doesn't mean anything

I just had my interview for Columbia today @ 11am. It couldn't have gone better! My interviewer had so much in common with me, and even said that she'll make sure I have a good recommendation. :)

I was contacted for an interview on February 10. I replied immediately. Since then, I have not hear anything from the person and it is now Febuary 28. I was told that interviews end March 1. What happend? Is this a bad thing?

maybe you should try calling up the admissions office to ask-i can’t think of anything else

Hi, I had an interview with a Columbia Alumni, and I thought it was pretty good; however, they notified my counselor requesting for a second interview…Does anyone know what this means? Good thing? Bad thing?

^it probably means you’re in the running, but not 100% in.

Thank you. Makes me nervous, but we’ll have to see what happens!

^Maybe the second interview was for OPUS.

I had a 20 minute telephone interview with Columbia. Did anyone else out there have the same thing?

Were you suppose to go the campus for the interview or have a local representative contact you?

and btw that phone interview was in like december or jan

Well, I had my 30 minute phone interview for the NOP program. However, i just had that recently.

Did they tell you what the 20 minute interview was for?..
I think if they do not have a local representative/ alumnus to interview you…then you’ll have a phone interview.

if you’re contacted by an alumnus who wants to interview you, and they insist that it should be a phone interview, that is not the kind of service Columbia is trying to extend to its applicants, and you should email the admissions office (after decisions are out, if you’re the nervous type) and let them know, so that alumnus either gets the message to stop being so lazy, or gets taken off the list to do interviews.

we’ve had a few instances of people reporting in this forum that they had a particularly abusive, or dismissive/phone-interview type of interview with an alum, and that usually makes its way back to the admissions committee somehow. they take this stuff seriously, because interviewer alums are representing the school and they want the school to put forward a good image. So don’t hesitate to let them know if you felt short-changed in your interview.

Hi guys! I’m a senior at Columbia who did some interviews with applicants this year. I know this thread was a while ago, but I just wanted to let you know that some interviews take place over the phone with senior leaders in order to extend the opportunity to interview to as many people as possible. It counts the same as an alumni interview, and is run through the same recommendations system. This is also a great opportunity to talk to a current student! Good luck!
