Columbia is a dream above all dreams.

With college applications a daunting process I have recently immersed myself within, I was curious as to what my chances are getting into Columbia University. I am a female considering to major in biomedical engineering or biology and minor in English.

Here's a little bit about me:
- I have been training in martial arts since the age of 5 (I'm 17 now) and recently received my 4th degree black belt. I've also been interning as an instructor since 8 years old and also was made a certified instructor. I have never been paid to instruct (I actually never wanted to), so I guess it's considered volunteer work in its own way. My training has opened my mind to a world of alternate thinking and a love for Buddhism and veganism.
- On a complete opposite side of the spectrum, I have been doing ballet since age 3. I began pointe at age 12, when I worked with a local ballet company. I began modern dance at the age of 14 and was placed after audition onto the competitive dance team at my dance school.
- I found out I could sing when I was 12, and a few years later began NYSSMA. Because of my participation in chorus and NYSSMA, I was inducted into the Tri-M Music Honor Society in 9th grade. I was selected to be Recording Secretary in 10th grade, selected to be Vice President this past year (11th grade), and have just been selected to be President in the coming year. P.S. I'm auditioning for All State in a few weeks (AHHHH!!!).
- I was inducted into the French Honor society in the spring of my sophomore year and have won numerous awards in national French contests and local poetry contests. I've been taking French for 6 years.
- I feel very strongly about volunteer work and giving back to my community, which has been engraved in my weekly routines since age 8 when I began teaching karate classes. I volunteered at a local hospital the summer before 9th grade and summer before 10th grade and totaled 168 hours between the two summers. I was inducted into National Honor Society in the beginning of my junior year and was recently elected President for the coming year.
- Last summer (before 11th grade), I was accepted for an internship as a Research Assistant at a nationally-recognized medical research institution. I spent the summer conducting my own research under two mentors. I was also recently accepted for a research internship at a private hospital in New York City to work with a team of researchers.

Here are some numbers:
GPA: 3.96
SAT: 2280
SAT II:
-Math 2: 750
-Biology: 770
9 AP's by the end of my senior year

Also, I don't know if this would help, but my mom went to Barnard for undergrad and then Columbia for grad, and my great-great-grandmother went to Columbia in the 1920's according to my grandfather.

Thank you so much in advance for you help. :)

Wow you have an impressive resume. Seems like you have a good shot at Columbia ED!

You are a competative applicant.
