Columbia - Letter of Recommendation

So I’m applying undergrad to columbia, RD, and my uncle is best friends w Mr. Brown who is on the board of directors, alumni board, and board of athletics. He’s having him write me a strong recommendation, will this help my chances? I have really strong ECs, really really strong essay, really strong grades, 1450 sat and 32 act

How is he going to write you a recommendation if he doesn’t know you? I feel like they are looking for recommendations that showcase your personality, so they have to be from people that know you.

Hey man I’m just riding the wave

I’m not sure exactly what to make of that ^^.

it seems to me that this really strong letter will say: “Please admit my best friend’s niece, who I don’t really know.”

We all have best friends, and most of them have nieces or nephews. That doesn’t make them college material.

I would count more on grades, SAT and real letters of recommendation. If I were doing admissions, this particular letter would go straight into the circular file. And, worse, it seems to imply that you can’t get any legit letters.

I think your app will be stronger without it.
