Columbia LGBT population?

hey guys,

this is my first post on CC; i have only recently discovered its wonders!!

anyway, ill get right to the point --
does columbia have a significant and/or well accepted gay population?

thanks

yes and yes

good, i was worried it would be an isolated affluent enclave within the heart of a cosmopolitan city a la USC

Have you been to USC? USC isn't "within the heart of" jack sh**. It's in the friggin' ghetto right in South Central.

And Columbia is an "affluent enclave" just as USC is. I'm not sure what that affluence has to do with sexuality.

there is no lack of LGBT advocacy and activism, either.

When I visited Columbia, 6 of the 6 guys present working/students in the admissions office were clearly gay.

...Vital information for my now pro-gay waitlist letter.

columbia2002,
the reason i said that was because i recently visited USC, hearing only good things from people who have gone there from my school, only to find that it was exactly as you say- a square in the middle of the ghetto (filled with rich jocks and blonds). it was totally awkward. not to mention the campus itself is a complete p.o.s. but whatev

you wouldnt know that columbia is hyper-rich by the fact that half of the freshman class is receiving financial aid :/

anyway, thanks for the responses

I think parts of the campus are really nice. It's not a beautiful campus, but the main quad is nice.

The other half is though.

hm, good point.

also (to avoid starting a new thread),
i was wondering if a Pass/Fail independent study period for an AP not offered at my school looks better than a letter grade in a non-AP class... because im considering doing this for comp gov/pol, but im not sure if it looks slacker-ish. any thoughts?
