I read a few college review books and they said that it seems just about every guy at columbia is gay. I certainly don't hate gays, but I couldn't imagine myself going to a school where the majority of guys is gay. It'd just be far out of my comfort zone. Can any students comment if this is true or just an exaggeration?

that is a GROSS exaggeration! can you name some of these "college review books"?

'the insiders guide to colleges' was one. I'm gonna try to find the others.

They stereotyped columbia guys as gay and columbia girls as feminist. oh well looks like another trashy piece of sensationalist college literature.

I'm not gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I don't think thats true.

And even if it was, you would trade an ivy league education at one of the finest school in the states because you don't want to be around a bunch of gay guys?

Man up and get more secure with your sexuality. Hell i would room with three gay guys into doing the filthy night for a full-ride at Columbia.

To say the majority of guys at any school are gay seems like a pretty bold, false statement. That said, when I visited Columbia, out of the 5 guys working in the admissions office, 5 had voices and mannerisms that would suggest that they were gay.

I've always heard that Yale has a much more prominent gay population than at any other Ivy yet when I visited it I could barely tell. Same at Columbia.

Agreed. If you're really worried about being surrounded by gays, its seems the advice is to stay away from NYU, Bard, etc. Either way, you should realize that any school in New York - even in any large city - will have its share of diversity. Enjoy. ;)

^^ Agreed. And stay away from the village. Actually, that's quite depressing, no Strand. =(

Who cares? More gays = most chicks available to you

^^ haha.....

leaving this thread quietly

Exactly. Every girl will flock to you.

haha yes uriA, that's the way to look at it! but really the proportion of gay guys anywhere isn't that high, at columbia there is a sizable gay community, not even close to a majority though, i've roomed with a gay guy and slept in the same bed as a gay guy (no further :( :P), it doesn't make any difference whatsoever. Unless they choose to dress very differently, or choose to walk very differently you might not even notice any difference. it isn't something that most people wear on their sleeve anyway, a gay person would introduce themself as "steve.", not "steve and interested in you".

Nah, and Yale is much worse.

LOL. You'd be surprised, though it's definitely not common.

Exactly! they're sneaky!

wow 1MX

if anything, us girls should be upset by this

this is what everyone at columbia is like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ke827vp-Lt4

^^lol, great video
