Columbia MBA Programs

Can someone please explain the difference between Columbia's MBA program and Executive MBA program?

one is a fulltime program and the other is a program you participate in while still working. Many schools have this including nyu.

The executive program is usually for people who are older and are already in managment-type positions. Usually you'll see people in their late 30s-early 50s in these types of programs. It's a part time program and probably takes 3 years to complete.

There are three major types of MBAs:

1) Full-time MBA: Those are usually two years long and intensive. Students must usually quit their jobs or take a long leave of absence. Since they do not work, they devote all of their enrgy to studying. They usually take 5 classes per term. Most classes are between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM and students usually have a summer internship between the two academic years. Most regular, full-time MBAs were low level managers or high level professional employees. Usually, most people who get a full-time MBA end up working at a new company when they graduate. Typically, a full-time MBA is more condusive to networking and career searches.

2) Part-time MBA: Part-time MBAs generally take 3-5 years to complete. Students at part-time programs usually hold full-time jobs. As such, they can only take 2, maybe 3 classes per term and most classes are held between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Generally, most part-time MBAs are low level managers or high level professionals who need their MBA for career advancement...but they usually stay with their company when they graduate.

3) Executive MBA: Those are part time programs intended for high level managers and even directors and VPs of companies. They are typically very expensive, so the company pays for it. Executive MBAs are a little less heavy on substance and a little heavier on networking. Like Part time programs, Executive programs are held in the evenings and participants can only take 2, maybe 3 classes per term. It usually takes 2-3 years to complete an executive MBA.

That's pretty much it.
